The Hyundai A-League announced the Western Melbourne Group (WMG) as a new team for Victoria late in 2018, with their licence awarded for the 2019/20 season.

The announcement followed a bid by the WMG to build their own 15,000-seat privately funded stadium in Tarneit, as well as training facilities, a sports science treatment centre and research institutes.

As the first fully soccer-owned senior stadium in the country, the new development marks an exciting time for football fans in Australia.

Wyndham mayor Peter Maynard shared the positive impact the sporting precinct would have for the Wyndham area.

“The value of this landmark deal for our community will be massive, positioning us as a destination of choice, and putting us on the national and international sporting stage.”

Once complete, the masterplan could also include a new hotel, numerous office buildings and residential projects.
